What Type of Fire Sprinkler Design Is Right for Your Building?

Safety should be one of your top priorities as a business owner. And part of keeping your staff and your building safe is making sure your fire sprinkler design is right for the space you’re occupying. If you’re not sure, here are a few different types of fire sprinkler system layout examples to keep in mind.

Wet Pipe

Wet pipe sprinkler systems are one of the most common fire sprinkler designs. In this particular setup, the pipes that lead to your sprinkler heads are filled with water under normal operating circumstances. When the sprinkler system is activated, that water is automatically discharged by the sprinkler heads. This is one of the best fire sprinkler system designs for climate-controlled buildings. So if you’re operating an office space where the temperature is kept consistent throughout the day, a wet pipe fire sprinkler system is probably one of the best options for you.

Dry Pipe

In stark contrast to a wet pipe fire sprinkler design, dry pipe systems are not filled with water, but more often something like compressed air or nitrogen. These fire sprinkler systems are most commonly installed in spaces where temperatures regularly drop below 40 degrees. In these environments, wet pipe systems may suffer damage or may not be able to operate properly in the event that a fire occurs. A dry pipe system relies on air pressure instead of heat to activate. Once enough pressurized air has been released, water will be released into the pipes and through sprinkler heads.

Antifreeze Systems

Systems like this are ideal in freezing environments. They require a very specific solution to operate properly. If it’s not mixed properly, there’s a chance the antifreeze solution itself could be flammable. So if you do choose this fire sprinkler option for your business, make sure you proceed with extreme caution.

When it comes to protecting your business and the people who work there from fires, choosing the right fire suppression software design is critical. These are just three of the many options you have to choose from. Make sure you’re taking your specific needs into consideration before you invest!
